(Atlantic) At Wednesday’s meeting, the Atlantic School Board approved the 2022-2023 certified budget.
The School Board held a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. and later approved a tax levy of $13.25 per one thousand dollars of valuation. The General Fund makes up $9.12, Management, $0.33, PPEL, $0.59, and the Debt Service, $3.20. The board agreed to lower the tax levy rate from $13.95 to $13.25 to offset the financial impact on property taxpayers due to the 7.09 percent increase in property valuations. The School Board also approved a $935,000.00 debt service payment, saving taxpayers money in interest payments.
In other business, the board approved the transfer of $315,439.18 from the categorical funds to a flexibility account in the general fund. Iowa law allows school districts flexibility in how unspent and unobligated amounts from specific categorical funds could be used through the creation and utilization of a flexibility account within a school district’s general fund. The board approved transfers of $200,000 from the Teacher Leadership Supplement, $15,439.18 from the Model Core Curriculum, and $100,000 from the Home School Assistance Program. The money will purchase a Math Curriculum for grades Kindergarten through 12th grade and April 22 and May 22 salaries for instructional staff at the Atlantic High School.
In other business, the School Board approved the following:
* Snyder and Associates engineering proposal of $24,850.00 for the Achievement Center Roof Improvements. the project would take place in late summer or early fall.

*2022-2023 Transportation Director sharing agreement with Griswold. This is an 80-20 agreement meaning Griswold pays 20-percent of the expenditures for the transportation director. In return, both districts receive operational sharing dollars in the amount of three regular program costs for students.
*Milk bid to Andersen-Erickson and bread bid to Pan-O-Gold.
*Payment to First Onsite for $569,008.81 payable when EMC Insurance funds are received.
*Third pay application for $29,136.19 to Camblin Mechanical for Middle School and Schuler Elementary air quality project.
*Long-term suspension agreement.
