(Audubon) A new police officer has been added to the department in Audubon.
The Audubon City Council approved the hire of Sean Staples this week. City Clerk Joe Foran says Staples is fully certified and began his duties on Monday. Foran also reports the council heard an update on the Fire Station Project. “The Chief was discussing changes to the floor plan to see if they can accommodate a severe weather shelter. He also discussed putting it back on the ballot for this November.”
In other news the Chamber will no longer be handling the city’s Christmas lights. “An issue dealing with the Christmas lights. There was some discussion. The Chamber has stated officially they no longer want any involvement with the lights. It will have to be some volunteers because several years ago there was an OSHA complaint on the City for doing tree trimming and putting up the lights without having the proper kind of equipment. The city can’t do it anymore so we are going to have to rely on volunteers to do it.”
A change is in the works for the Urban Revitalization Plan. “For commercial property they are going to remove the $250,000 cap and establish a five year sliding scale for abatement.”
A public hearing for the Urban Revitalization Plan Amendment is set for May 9th. The Council also amended the building code to allow homes to be built on smaller lots. A pay application was approved on the Weir Project.
