(Anita) The CAM boys golf team has a good group to build around for the upcoming season.
Senior Logan Lawrence is among the top returning golfers for the Cougars. Head coach Joe Wollum says, “Logan Lawrence has been playing varsity golf since he was a freshman. He had a great summer this year so we are excited to see him provide some leadership. We’re excited to see what he can do. We have a bunch of guys that have played varsity roles too like Carson Cary and Bradyn Bohnsack.”
Coach Wollum is excited about freshman Chase Jahde. “He’s probably played more golf than most kids his age. He’s always been playing the junior tours so he’s been around competitive golf his whole life. We are really excited to see what he can do on the course for us.”
The girls team has just two members. “Reese Snyder qualified for state last year, so excited to hopefully get Reese back to that. Mady McKee missed out only by a few strokes a year ago from going to state and we are hoping we can get her there. This is only her second year of golfing so we are excited to see what she can do. Hopefully our girls can be ultra competitive night in and night out.”
Coach Wollum reports practice is going well even if they can’t get outside everyday. “We’ve played a lot of holes the first week and a little bit of this week. This week we’ll spend a lot of balls inside in our cage and breaking down some of the swings of our younger golfers. Hopefully that will pay off for us the following week once we start meets.”
The first meet of the season for the Cougars is Tuesday, March 29th in Avoca against AHSTW and Exira-EHK.
