(Atlantic) Ten and a half years ago, Devin Hogue took the Oath and became a member of the Atlantic Police Department; at the end of the day, on March 31, he will take over as Atlantic Police Chief.
Lt. Hogue says this is a big responsibility, which means a lot to him. When asked what the public can expect from him as Chief of Police, Hogue thinks they can expect someone fair and honest, supportive of their officers, and dedicated to the department. Additionally, they can expect someone who is supportive of the community and wants to be active in the community, not only as a Police Chief but in his life outside of that role.
The Atlantic Police force, when fully staffed, consists of 12 officers. Lt. Hogue says keeping the police Department fully staffed is one of the biggest challenges facing law enforcement today. He says the problem isn’t confined to the APD; it’s a problem across the nation. Hogue says he needs to fill one spot on the force, which will be one of the first things he concentrates on when he takes over.
Lt. Hogue is looking forward to working with soon-to-be Assistant Police Chief Paul Wood.
Lt. Hogue joined the Atlantic Police Department in August of 2011. Before joining the APD, he worked in the Shenandoah Police Department. He attended the 13th Basic Class at Western Iowa Tech Community College, where he was certified as a law enforcement officer in November 2010. Devin Hogue is married with two children and oversees the department’s different kids programs throughout the year. He enjoys working with the children, criminal community, criminal investigations, and drug investigations.
Devin Hogue was hired by former Police Chief Steve Green and served under Chief Dave Erickson, retiring at the end of the day on March 31. Hogue is grateful to Steve Green for hiring him and Chief Erickson for promoting him to Lieutenant.
