(Anita) The CAM girls track team is set to open their outdoor season on Thursday, March 31st in Audubon.
Cougar Coach Luke Symonds is excited for the girls he has on the squad this year and says they are coming off of some good practices this week despite the weather. “We were stuck inside with the weather. Sprinters got after it, distance had a great workout, and throwers are always putting in the time. It was really good to see.”
Mallory Behknen is coming off of a 6th place finish at state in the discus and leads a good group in the field events. “Senior year I think she can go out and compete and do her best. Her discus, really excited for that this year. She was just starting to peak at the end of last year, get her form down, and really start to love the discus. Looking for some big things out of her.”
Emma Follmann returns after clearing 5-00 in the high jump last season and will also try some long jump this season. CAM brings back 3/4 of their shuttle hurdle relay which capped off last season with a 7th place finish at state. “That was really, really fun. That was kind of the highlight of state track was getting a relay team to get a medal. On that team we’re bringing back Nova Wheatley, Abby Follmann, and Bree Bower.”
The Cougars have over 20 athletes on the roster to start the year.
