(Avoca) AHSTW has given up an average of just 28 points per game in their first two postseason wins. The Vikings will take on Exira-EHK Tuesday night in a district final that will air on 96.5 KSOM.
Coach GG Harris says defense has been the biggest things standing out about his squad’s play. “Even when we aren’t playing great defense, there aren’t very many possessions with too many defensive breakdowns. They know that’s where the game is going to be won or lost. We maybe haven’t shot the best, but when you can hold teams under 40 points good things will come your way.”
They’ll take on an Exira-EHK team that they beat 81-65 in the regular season. The Spartans were able to keep pace with the Vikings for the first half of that game. “We have to body up inside on offense and defense and take care of the paint. They do a really good job of playing with their back to the basket. We have to make sure they don’t get too deep, force tough shots, and own the boards.”
A spot in the substate final is on the line. The winner of Tuesday’s game will play for a trip to state on Saturday against either West Harrison or Coon Rapids-Bayard.
