The teams were neck and neck in the first quarter and things settled out at a 14-14 tie. The Wheeler offense fell on hard times in the 2nd with a 4:00 scoreless stretch. CAM pushed the lead as big as five points at 21-16, but saw the margin trimmed to three by halftime.
The 3rd quarter was CAM’s turn for the offensive woes. Wheeler head coach Coleman Mullenix says, “The biggest thing was defensively in the 2nd half we played really well and limited them in every way. Ultimately that’s what allowed us to pull away.
The Wheelers held a 29-26 lead going into the 4th and got things clicking from inside out and with a 16-4 start to the final stanza.
CAM’s top scorer was Colby Rich with 12. It’s the Cougar’s 4th straight loss. Audubon improves to 7-13. In the last week they’ve picked up two victories against teams with double digit win totals on the season.
