(Avoca) Coming up Friday night on KSOM AHSTW will host Logan-Magnolia in a girl/boy basketball doubleheader.
The AHSTW girls snapped a six game losing streak with their 54-16 triumph over Missouri Valley on Tuesday. Coach Jill Vanderhoof comments on the key to the win. “I think being able to play a complete game. We’ve had a lot of really tough games lately and we’ve hung in there until the third quarter or until halftime and then that third quarter or fourth quarter we just can’t put together. We take good shots, but they just don’t fall for us quite the way we want them to. Being able to continue to take shots, let them fall, and play with each other was huge for us.”
Coach Jill Vanderhoof says Logan-Magnolia is always well-coached and the Panthers are very prepared. “They scout very, very well. They know what you are going to run. We can still execute the things we need to do. We’ve been improving. We’ve made some changes so we are a different team than when we saw them the first time.” The Panthers won 35-21 when they played in Logan.
The Lady Vikes take a 6-12 record into play on Friday. Coach Vanderhoof has seen growth on both ends of the floor. “Our defense has improved. Being able to communicate with each other on screens, on switches, on cuts, and things like that. We’ve gotten a lot more aggressive so we aren’t just allowing people to get to the spots where they want to be. We’ll be strong in the middle. That’s been good to see. We’ve been sharing the ball well. We’ve had some girls that have stepped up and hit some big shots.”
Pregame coverage hits the air at around 5:50. The girls contest tips at 6:00.
