(Red Oak) Newly elected Red Oak Mayor Shawnna Silvius gaveled in her first City Council meeting this past week. Silvius says number one on the list is learning her role as the mayor.
Silvius says the council is participating in the League of Cities Municipal Leadership Academy. Silvius also joined the Iowa Mayor’s Association.
During her campaign, Silvius pushed for unity and improvements in the city’s infrastructure.
Mayor Silvius says another goal is to review all of the funding coming with infrastructure regarding water and wastewater and a potential study to improve upon critical and essential infrastructure and secure resources to cover these items.
Mayor Silvius says another goal is creating a community culture encouraging positive synergy.
Shawnna Silvius holds an Associate’s degree in Fine Arts, a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing, and a Master of Science degree in Organizational Management focused on Entrepreneurship and Economic Development. She also earned an Organizational Development certification in Program Evaluation and Human Resource Development.
