(Atlantic) Alexsis Fleener, the Community Development Director for the Southwest Iowa Planning Council, appeared in front of the Atlantic City Council requesting support for an application for the property at 300 Chestnut Street in downtown Atlantic.
The City Council originally approved its’ support for this grant application to Jennifer Miller; however, the construction costs came in higher than she felt comfortable pursuing. Fleener says the City can have only one of these grant applications, and the funds are only available that she knows of this year.
Fleener says Gude can get a project like this done. She says the building can house between four and six apartment units. The grant will be for $300,000.
The funding invests in projects that include; building rehabilitation projects that increase upper floor housing options, incorporate quality design and preservation-based strategies, support local revitalization efforts, and stimulate additional district investment.
