(Area) 75,000 deer have been harvested in Iowa heading into the final weekend of the shotgun season.
The expectation coming into the season was for 100,000-120,000 deer to be harvested. “Our deer biologist is predicting we should again harvest 100,000 deer in the state. That’s right where we have been in the last six years and right where we want. The population level allows for this harvest of about 100,000 deer and it looks like we are going to make it again this year.”
Bryan Hayes, with the DNR Office in Lewis, says there’s still time to add to the total of 75,000. “One weekend left plus the late muzzleloader season and that split bow season re-opens. Typically during that late muzzleloader season we’ll harvest another 10,000 deer.”
