(Audubon) Treynor at Audubon comes your way Tuesday on KSOM. Video of the game will also stream live at WesternIowaToday.com
The Cardinals graduated a great senior class from last year’s state tournament team, but Audubon coach Coleman Mullenix indicates he is not expecting a big drop off. “The WIC runs through Treynor in my opinion. Once again they are good, they are athletic. They are always difficult to play against. Beyond being athletic and really talented they are disciplined, really well coached, and you know you are going to have make little to no mistakes if you’re going to be able to compete with them.”
Treynor has defeated Missouri Valley 70-39 and Bishop Heelan 50-46. Audubon’s lost 46-44 to Tri-Center on Friday. They tied the game at 44-all with a Carson Bauer 3-pointer in the final couple of minutes, but Tri-Center held for the final shot and got the win. Before that Audubon had defeated Missouri Valley 54-39. Coach Mullenix says they had good ball movement in the victory. “Really good flow in our offense. We got to the rim. We didn’t even attempt a ton of 3-pointers which against them was good because we felt like we could get all the way to the rim and we did that. Defensively we were sound, we rebounded well, and didn’t give up many offensive rebounds. It was a really good game for us. I was pleased to see so many things go right in the first game of the year.”
Carson Bauer leads the offense at 21 points per game. Gavin Smith is averaging an impressive 11.5 points per game.
Treynor coach Scott Rucker says his team has learned some valuable lessons early on, especially in their win at Bishop Heelan. He comments on the matchup with Audubon. “Coleman does a wonderful job with his kids. We always know they are going to be ready to play. Going up there in my opinion is probably one of the hardest if not thee hardest place to go win in the conference. We’re eager for that challenge and we are fully expecting a great game on Tuesday.”
We’ll have both games of the doubleheader for you. The girls game tips at 6:00 and the boys contest will follow.
