(Audubon) The Audubon girls basketball team is off to a 1-0 start ahead of their matchup with 0-1 Tri-Center on Friday.
The Wheelers downed Missouri Valley on Tuesday with 18 points from Aleah Hermansen, 15 for Jaci Christensen, and 11 out of Kate Tessman. Coach Darran Miller was pleased with a lot of the things he saw in their 64-23 win. “A little bit of everything. Offensively there were some good things. I really liked the extra passes we made. I can think of four or five possessions where we made extra passes and we’ve talked a lot about that this year. Defensively I thought our press the first quarter got us some easy buckets and that was encouraging to see.”
Hermansen and Christensen are in their 4th year of varsity play. Hermansen has already signed with Dordt and Christensen has inked with Iowa Central. For the Wheelers to reach their ultimate goals a strong supporting cast is going to have to develop. “Both Aleah and Jaci know they can’t do it themselves. It takes all eleven of us that are out this year. We have an interesting mix. We have two seniors that have started for four years. Then we bring in Kate Tessman who is a senior this year and will see a lot of playing time and can be a shooter for us.” Others that will fill roles are Audrey Jensen, Sienna Albertsen, Madison Steckler, Rylee Brittain, Cheyenne Barber, and Kennedy Rohe. “We are probably going to play 8-9 deep and all those girls we’ve talked a lot about knowing their roles and how they can help this team out. The team has a good chemistry thus far and people are trying to figure out what their roles are. I think it’s going to be a good thing as we get going here.”
On Friday the Wheelers meet a Tri-Center squad that lost to Logan-Magnolia 49-38 on Tuesday.
