(Avoca) AHSTW was clicking on all cylinders in their first game of the 2021-22 boys basketball season. The Vikings return their entire starting lineup from a substate final appearance last year and debuted in style on Tuesday.
A 19-2 stretch to start the game fueled an 81-30 victory. Brayden Lund got the job done inside and out with a 32 point performance. Raydden Grobe put home a couple of dunks and scored 15 of his 17 in the 1st half.
The Viking defense smothered Riverside with double teams in the early going and it led to leads of 23-12 at the end of the first quarter and 44-21 at half. They used a 13-0 stretch in the third quarter to put the running clock rule into effect.
Riverside got seven points from Aiden Bell and six each for Grady Jeppesen and Mikey Casson. The Bulldogs were held to 26% (12/46) shooting and made just 3/22 (14%) of their 3-point tries. AHSTW was 32/50 (64%) from the field and hit 8/15 beyond the arc.
1-0 AHSTW will travel to Underwood on Friday. The Eagles won comfortably over IKM-Manning on Tuesday. 0-1 Riverside hosts IKM-Manning on Friday night.
