(Monticello, IA) — Two people are injured after a man set off an explosive device in eastern Iowa Wednesday night. Monticello police and a Jones County sheriff’s deputy responded after a woman reported her husband was threatening to blow up the home. The officer and deputy were talking with the suspect when he ignited a device in the basement, causing an explosion and fire. Investigators say the deputy and suspect were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Monticello firefighters put out the fire in the basement and some neighboring homes were evacuated as a precaution. The suspect was identified as 62-year-old David Costello.
