(Red Oak) The Red Oak City Council will vote an ordinance amending the code pertaining to fences.
Red Oak City Administrator Brad Wright said last month, the reason for the provision is residents using inappropriate materials such as pallets or corrugated steel that many residents feel is unattractive.
Wright says only height limitations are identified in the ordinance. So he proposed some language for the council to at least consider.
For example:
*No fence shall be erected without first acquiring a building permit.
*Fences must be constructed out of commercially available products specially designed and recommended by the manufacturer for fencing.
*The fence design and materials must be approved by the zoning official before a permit can be issued.
*And construction practices must meet industry standards and manufacturers recommendations.
“Basically this gives us the ability to ask what they are going to use to build their fence so we can decide whether it is appropriate or not,” stated Wright.
This is one of several issues the board will discuss and possibly act on at tonight’s meeting that begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Fire Station.
