(Nevada) The Nevada football program is in their first ever quarterfinal playoff game. The 6th rated Cubs travel to #1 Harlan in a game we’ll have on KSOM Friday night.
The quarterfinal round is old hat for Harlan, but it’s a brand new venture for Nevada. The Cubs were 1-4 all time in the playoffs prior to this year. Harlan on the other hand is 97-27 in their playoff history. “We’ve been having a nice buildup in our program the last few years and we’ve gained some momentum. I think overall our kids have bought into the offseason process of the weight room and trying to get better every day. We are pretty senior led which has been essential to our success and we are playing some pretty good football.”
That’s head coach Andy Kleeman whose team stormed back from a 20-13 deficit last week and scored three touchdowns in the 4th to beat ADM 34-26. “It was a great high school football game. It was really back and forth and both teams played really hard and made plays. In the end we were able to make a few more plays than they were and we were just happy to come out with a victory in a hard fought game.”
Now they’ll face a Harlan squad that leads Class 3A in touchdowns, passing yards, and the list goes on…”Clearly they are extremely explosive on the offensive end. The quarterback, receivers, they move their kids around really well putting them in good one-on-one matchups. They are really good up front. Defensively they are very aggressive and fly to the football. We know what we are going into Friday night. We are going to be going against a really good football team.”
Nevada’s defense has been their strength. Coach Kleeman says they came into the year with the most returning experience on that side of the ball that they’ve ever had. The Cubs allowed just 11.1 points per game throughout the regular season.
