(Audubon) The Audubon Wheelers are a win away from their second trip to the dome in the past three seasons. Friday night in round two of the 8-Player playoffs they went on the road and handled a high powered Montezuma squad, 63-14.
The win is Audubon’s 5th straight since dropping a mid-season game to #2 CAM, 58-42. The Wheelers weren’t slowed by a long road trip as they led 21-6 at the end of the first quarter and 42-6 at half. Gavin Smith ran 22 times for 301 yards and six touchdowns.
Montezuma came in with an offensive average of 57.1 points per game, but were held to two scores. Manny Beisswenger and Gavin Larsen each intercepted a pass for Audubon while Braden Wessel led the team with 7.5 tackles and returned a punt for a score. The Braves had won 20 of their last 21 games going into Friday’s contest.
#8 Audubon is 9-1 and gets the right to face 5th ranked and 10-0 WACO next week. We’ll have the game on KSOM.
