(Exira) Certified enrollment numbers are up at Exira-EHK. Superintendent Trevor Miller reports an increase of 5.8 students. “We went from 401.2 to 407. We had nine less that open enrolled out so that’s a plus. We had less students to go somewhere else so that’s a win.”
The district serves 360.5 which is an increase of 13.1 from last year. “Our preschool went up about seven kids too so everything was on the positive. It’s good to see everyone back in school. I think part of the increase is some students last year homeschooled their kids or kept them out with Covid with the uncertainty.”
In other board activity, bids were approved for Atlantic Glass Company and PCS for work on the daycare. They are hoping to be able to open in January, pending staffing. “When you have DHS requirements there have to be some modifications and adjustments. The biggest problem right now is they’ve advertised and had interviews and then had people not show at interviews. They have to find a director and be able to get their license. I know everyone is struggling to find employees right now, but daycare is a tough area.”
The board tabled action on a snow removal bid and approved a trip for high school students to Washington DC for the Spring of 2023.
