(Guthrie Center) ACGC hosts Nodaway Valley in a Class 2A Region 3 volleyball quarterfinal on Wednesday. KSOM will have play-by-play of the match with pregame coverage starting at 6:45.
A 16-2 stretch from September 14th-October 14th has the Chargers feeling upbeat going into the postseason. ACGC coach Jen Policky says, “We feel like we have everything lining up exactly how we want it to be right now. We started off the season pretty rough, but finishing up the regulars season at 21-11 feels pretty good.” It’s the fourth time in the last five years they’ve reached at least 20 wins. Last year they played just 23 matches and won 17 of them.
The team finished as the runner-up to Class 3A #8 DM Christian in the West Central Activities Conference standings. “We are really making sure we have solid defense and can pick up some of the harder hits that are coming from tougher teams and turning them into opportunities where we can really hammer the ball back at some folks. We aren’t going to win points if we can’t hit back at them.”
ACGC does own one win over Nodaway Valley this season. It was a 21-12, 21-13 decision at the Chargers home tournament. “We aren’t looking past anybody especially in postseason. We are coming to this match on Wednesday like any other game. We aren’t looking at the fact that we’ve already beat them.”
The winner advances to a regional semifinal in Corning on Monday. The opponent will be the winner between SW Valley and Panorama.
ACGC is led by UNI recruit Chloe Largent with a Class 2A leading 5.5 kills per set. Alaina Bunde (74 kills) and Mersadez Richter (65 kills) have been other key contributors at the net. Molli Gettler leads the team in assists with 375. Largent, Richter, and Jordan Lemke all have over 100 digs on the season.
