(Red Oak) Red Oak earned a 3-0 sweep over Atlantic in the first round of Class 3A Regional Volleyball. The 28-9 Tigers set up a date at 6th rated Sergeant Bluff-Luton in the regional semifinals on Wednesday.
Red Oak won comfortably in sets one and three and fought back from a late deficit in the second set. The scores were 25-10, 25-20, and 25-10. Atlantic led by as many as five on multiple occasions in the second, but Red Oak rallied back with ten straight points. Trojan head coach Michelle Blake says, “We forced them to play our game in the second set. In the first and the third we played their game. That just can’t happen when you’re playing a team like that.”
Atlantic ends the season at 17-20. It’s their most wins since 2010. “Overall we did a lot of great things. We did a lot of great things this year.” The team has a bright future with a half dozen key juniors set to return, but will graduate two seniors. “Our seniors put in a lot of work, especially Reagan (Leonard).”
