(Van Meter) Van Meter defended their home field with a 41-7 win on Friday night. The Bulldogs secure the Class 1A, District 7 title.
ACGC’s Cayden Jensen returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a TD and the Charger defense forced a 3 and out on Van Meter’s first possession, but after that the visitors had very little to cheer about the rest of the way. Van Meter quickly turned a Korbin Barck fumble recovery midway through the first quarter into points. Jack Pettit ran one in from 13 yards out to tie the game at 7-7. The rushing score from Pettit was the start of six unanswered scores for Van Meter, which runs their regular season win streak to 59.
Dalten Van Pelt carried 25 times for 227 yards and three scores. Pettit added 94 rushing yards and one TD on eight attempts. After a shaky start through the air, Pettit found a rhythm after halftime. He went 4/4 in the 2nd half with 85 yards and one TD.
The Bulldogs wrap up the district championship with an 8-0 overall record. The defense was unscored upon in district play as the only TD given up was on a kick return. ACGC suffers their first defeat of the year. The Chargers wind up as the District 7 runner-up. Gavin Cornelison carried 21 times for 66 yards. Cayden Jensen ran for 64 yards on 11 carries.
