(Audubon) An Audubon City Council Work Session this week centered around a discussion on code enforcement.
A round table community meeting was held on August 17th and one of the overwhelming responses was on code enforcement. City Clerk Joe Foran says the council heard the message loud and clear. “The council definitely got the message from the people that they just want us to enforce what’s on the books in terms of abatement and what’s on the code. A lot of it is centered around trying to figure out what we can do now and how we can improve the process.”
Foran says often times properties in question are being taken care of, but it takes time. “We are dealing with things it’s just a lot of times it is behind the scenes where you might have a dilapidated building that’s just sitting there and seems like it’s getting ignored, but in actuality it’s going through the court process or something like that and it takes time to work. So the City is aware of it and they are addressing things.”
The only other agenda item was a water assistance program. “New Opportunities is asking for us to enter into an agreement for them to provide them some federal funds for assistance with utility bills for lower income people. We were discussing that and probably will move forward with it.”
