(Waterloo, IA) — A Waterloo woman will spend a year in federal prison for illegally buying a gun for her boyfriend in July of 2020. The US Attorney’s Office says 26-year-old Ashley Lies was sentenced after pleading guilty to making a false statement during purchase of a firearm. Prosecutors say her boyfriend is a convicted domestic abuser prohibiting from possessing guns. The firearm was seized from him a few weeks later. They say Lies also tried to purchase at least one other gun for him and a friend but was denied.
