(Shenandoah) Shenandoah Mayor Dick Hunt recently drafted a thank you letter to the Atlantic School System and the surrounding community on behalf of the City of Shenandoah to support Grace Johnson’s family, a Shenandoah student. She died from injuries in a motor vehicle accident this past August.
“We’re sure glad we live where we do because we know what the Atlantic Community went through with Steele McLaren,” said Shenandoah Mayor Dick Hunt. “It’s really nice the way the Atlantic School and surrounding community treated the Johnson Family.”
The Shenandoah School System and surrounding community showed their support for the Steele McLaren family last winter when Steele was injured in an accident nearly one year ago. Steele and his family presented the check on behalf of the Atlantic Community School District and the Community at halftime of the Atlantic – Shenandoah football game on September 10.
Grace Johnson died from her injuries on August 23, following a motor vehicle accident on August 19. Grace was about to begin her senior year in high school and wanted to pursue a career in nursing.
Atlantic High School Spanish teacher and AHS Fuel sponsor Dan Vargason said more money has been raised for the family and will be presented at the Atlantic-Shenandoah Volleyball Game.
