(Area) Youth Deer Season opens today and runs through October 3rd.
Youth Hunters are in for a warm opening weekend. “The Iowa expects 10,000 young hunters to participate in the youth season. It is designated as a mentor style hunt, matching young hunters with licensed adults that can teach proper deer hunting techniques and safe practices without the pressure of a lot of other people out in the field. We encourage people to take advantage of these youth seasons.”
Bryan Hayes with the Iowa DNR notes mild conditions typically accompany the opening weekend for youth hunters. “Plan accordingly. Think about the kids as you plan these hunts, short hunts. Plan them with the kids in mind.”
Unfilled tags during the youth season can be used in any upcoming season.
