(Audubon) The City Council and Fire Association in Audubon are moving forward with putting a bond issue on the November ballot.
The bond issue to finance a new fire station will be between $2 and $2.5 million. City Clerk Joe Foran says, “The Council moved to instruct the city attorney to draw up the language to place the bonding for the fire station on the ballot. It’ll be for November’s ballot.”
In other news, the Council held a Property Hearing for 917 Broadway Street. Foran says assistant city attorney Blake Miller outlined three options the city has to handle issues with the property. “The first option was to abate the property per the magistrate’s ruling and that would be to bring the building up to code. Our building administrator estimated it would be $50,000 to $60,000 to do that. The second option was to try and get ownership by the abandoned building code, but there is still an individual living there. The third option would be to demolish the property as a dangerous building. Then after six months of abandonment apply for ownership. The Council moved to select option three.”
Elsewhere, the Council passed a resolution designating 302 Broadway as a historical site which will help secure grant funding for a 2nd story loft project. They also agreed to sponsor a grant application for the Friendship Home to update HVAC Equipment.
Derrick Seaton has been hired as a new police officer and will start at the academy later this month.
