(Area) Earlier this week the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union announced the implementation of a :35 shot clock for the 2022-23 basketball season. KSOM/KS95.7 Sports is gathering reactions from area coaches including CAM’s Joe Wollum and Nodaway Valley’s Brian Eisbach.
The topic has been heavily debated by basketball fans, coaches, officials, and so on in recent years. Coach Wollum is neither for or against the shot clock:
He admits it fits well with CAM’s style of play:
There are a wide variety of reasons that made now the right time for the IHSAA and IGHSAU to move forward with a shot clock.
There are plenty of skeptics out there. Much of which comes from the smooth implementation or lack there of.
Others have raised concerns over cost. Wollum provides insight into that element.
He believes :35 is a good starting point.
Brian Eisbach, head girls coach at Nodaway Valley, is without a doubt in favor of a shot clock.
Eisbach is looking forward to the shot clock leading to some more exciting games to see.
Through conversations with coaches both inside and outside of Iowa, Eisbach hasn’t sensed an overwhelming consensus one way or another on the topic. However, there’s a certain feeling of not wanting to get left behind on what others are doing.
