(Sioux City) Fall camp is underway for the Morningside football team. CAM graduate Isaac Bower enters his third year in the program.
In Bower’s first two years on campus the Mustangs have won two conference championships and one national title. “It’s definitely the coaching staff. Each one of them works their tails off to get us prepared. They are in the office day in and day out and they really care for us. They know what they are doing.”
Bower played mostly special teams last year and said any opportunity to get on the field was special. He’ll be competing for a starting spot this year. “There’s definitely opportunity there. Last year I was second string. This year is the same position and still looking to fight for that starting position and just see what happens come fall.”
Having gotten his feet wet the last couple of seasons he feels more ready to provide an impact this season. “It’s nice being an upperclassmen and going through those two years of not knowing what’s going to happen, but this year know what is going to happen, how to prepare your body, how to mentally focus for each practice, how to get yourself where you want to be in these next four weeks. It’s definitely an advantage.”
Bower makes no doubt about it, he’s pleased with the choice he made out of high school to commit to Morningside. “Oh absolutely, the experiences here are unlike any other. I’ve gotten to travel the world, help other people in need, I’ve met lifelong friends. Great relationships with the coaches. It’s a once in a lifetime experience here.”
The goal for the team is to win another NAIA national championship. The Mustangs open the season September 4th against Concordia.
