(Area) Nearly 300,000 pheasants were harvested by Iowa hunters in 2020.
The figure released by the Iowa DNR recently is the 2nd most in the last decade. “All in all a pretty good season for Iowa pheasant hunters with nearly 300,000 harvested pheasants in the state. The number of hunters were up. We saw 10,000 more hunters take the field last fall for the pheasant season. That’s a good thing to see.”
Bryan Hayes with the DNR Office in Lewis says the numbers were not a surprise. “This was kind of all predicted. Last year’s roadside counts showed an 18% increase in pheasant numbers in the state so it wasn’t surprising.”
It won’t be long before a glimpse is provided into pheasant population for 2021. Roadside surveys are set to begin at the start of August.
