(Atlantic) The State of Iowa will once again offer free breakfast and lunch for all students during the 2021-2022 school year.
Atlantic School’s Superintendent Steve Barber says families who qualify for free and reduced lunches also benefit from being waived or pay a reduced amount of student fees. Barber says it is important to remember that families still need to fill out free and reduced lunch applications if they qualify. “It’s important as a school district that all people eligible for free and reduced are recorded in the system,” said Barber. “This gives the school system a free and reduced percentage. When it gives over a certain amount of students, the district can get some benefit from that.”
An example is that the Atlantic Community School District has offered summer breakfast and lunch free of charge for the past six summers based on the free and reduced percentages.
