(Anita) KSOM will air the Class 1A District 13 Final between #9 CAM and Lenox on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in Anita.
These teams have already met once this season. Lenox won a 10-9 contest on June 10th. CAM head coach Dan Daugherty says, “That was one of those late in the week games where both sides were down to there #4 or #5 pitchers. It was kind of slugfest. They just happened to come out on top.”
Lenox has defeated East Union and Nodaway Valley each in one run games to get here. They are 21-11. “Their pitchers throw strikes and they have quite a few upperclassmen in their lineup. They do a good job of putting the ball in play. We are going to have to make sure we make the plays and not give people free passes.”
So far this postseason, CAM has eliminated Griswold 15-1 and topped Bedford 10-0. “I think #1 pitching wise that’s been our strength so far in these two games. We haven’t had a lot of walks. We have been doing a good job of getting ahead in the count and finishing people off.”
#9 CAM and #4 St. Albert are the two ranked teams in Substate 7. While some may have speculated that the Cougars and Falcons are on a collision course for a second straight meeting in the substate finals, coach Daugherty knows his team isn’t looking past Saturday’s game. “Not a chance. They beat us, Lenox beat us the first time. So they have to be our #1 focus and they will be.”
Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. The winner advances to face either St. Albert or Exira-EHK for a trip to state on Tuesday.
