“I’ve been real happy with everything we’ve done so far,” Audubon coach Eric Borkowski says when asked about his team’s body of work.
Fourteen wins for Audubon matches their most in a single season since 2010. Katelyn Nielsen is hitting .361 for the Wheelers with six doubles, four triples, three home runs, and 22 RBI. Sydney Beymer (.353), Jordan Porsch (.340), and Mattie Nelsen (.302) are all hitting over .300 as well. Mattie Nielsen, Hannah Thygesen, and Kali Irlmeier have all hit three homers on the season. Johanna Sauers has two and Porsch has hit one for a team with 15 long balls on the year.
Irlmeier and Alexis Obermeier have each been effective in the pitcher’s circle. Irlmeier is 11-3 with a 2.81 ERA. She has struck out 68 batters and walked 15 in 74 2/3 innings pitched. Obermeier is 3-5 with four saves and an ERA of 3.35. She has struck out 56 and walked 18 in 62 2/3 innings of work. Each pitcher has an identical .238 opponent batting average.
The winner of Tuesday’s meeting will play on Wednesday. Awaiting the victor is Exira-EHK. “We have to come ready to play and hopefully we can come out on top. I think this is a team that we could go a long ways, but it depends which team shows up. If it’s the team that we’ve had throughout the conference season and we play well and play hard and play together we could go a long ways.”
