(Area) Conditions are right for anglers to go after catfish.
With rising water temperatures the time is now to hook a catfish. “The catfish are starting to move in. Surface water temperatures are approaching 80 degrees. The catfish are going to be seeking cavities. They are cavity spawners. Places where rip-rap forms cavities, you’ll find catfish.” Stink bait, especially with warmer temperatures, is effective when targeting catfish.
Fisheries Biologist Bryan Hayes says we’ve reached the tail end of the bluegill spawn while the bass and crappie spawn has come and gone. “Bluegills will kind of spawn early. There might be a lull in the spawn or break in the spawn and you might even find bluegill on the nests later in June or July. You always have to check those areas known for spawning bluegills.”
