(Council Bluffs) Lewis Central broke open a close game in the sixth inning to defeat Atlantic 12-2 in a Hawkeye Ten Conference Baseball game at Council Bluffs on Thursday night.
“The team played okay against a tough Lewis Central team that took advantage of our mistakes,” said Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer. “We had four errors which played a big difference in the outcome of the game.”
Atlantic jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Lewis Central answered with two runs in the third, one run in the fourth, and nine runs in the sixth inning.
Lewis Central scored twelve runs on seven hits. Britton Bond led the Titans with two home runs and three RBI. The Trojans scored two runs on nine hits. Bond pitched five innings and struck out seven Trojan hitters. Cael Malskeit pitched one inning and struck out two batters.
“The guys did a good job of putting the ball in play, ” said Coach Brummer. “The hits just weren’t as timely as we needed them to be.”
Bodie Johnson stroked a single and a double, and Wyatt Redinbaugh drilled a single and a double to lead the Trojans at the plate.
In their last three outings this week, Lewis Central plated 36 runs while allowing their opponents to a stingy four runs.
The Titans, now 11-0 on the season and 8-0 in the Hawkeye Ten host Urbandale on Friday night. Atlantic falls to 5-4 overall and 4-4 in the Hawkeye Ten Conference. The Trojans travel to Shenandoah on Monday.
