(Atlantic) Atlantic School’s Superintendent Steve Barber says construction work is on pace to start play at the newly renovated baseball-softball fields possibly as early as next week.
At Wednesday’s School Board meeting, Barber reported the goal is to play on Tuesday, June 15th. “The underdeveloped grass and weather conditions may prevent this from happening,” said Barber. “A few things still need to be done before we can open the facility.”
Most importantly, a safe backstop needs to be installed on both the baseball and softball fields. The padded backstops are on backorder. The equipment is coming from New York, and it’s not certain when they will arrive.
Barber says representatives from Snyder and Associates are scheduled to inspect the facilities on Thursday and create a punch list of responsibilities that need to be completed. “All of these adjustments receive approval from Snyder and Associates to ensure the facility is safe, and the playing surface is safe to play on,” said Barber.
The protective coating is installed along the outfield fence, both fields will be rolled, and the grass cut one more time.
Barbers said the sub-contractors have a couple of tasks to complete, and if given the all-clear, the Fire Department will wash down the facility.
Atlantic High School Athletic Director Andy Mitchell will release more details following the inspection.
