(Atlantic) Atlantic graduate Tessa Grooms will play college basketball at Iowa Central. She signed a letter of intent during a ceremony at Atlantic High School on Wednesday afternoon.
Grooms averaged 6.2 points and team best 6.1 rebounds per game as a senior for Atlantic. She led the Trojans with 34 blocked shots. Grooms did not play high school basketball as a freshman or a sophomore. She admits it wasn’t until after her junior season that she started to take the sport more seriously.
Head coach Brian Ortmeier and assistant Sabah Dickerson were each on hand for the signing. Ortmeier was impressed by what they saw in Grooms, especially in regards to rebounding and shot blocking.
Atlantic coach Dan Vargason comments on what Grooms brought to the floor.
Grooms is one of three 2021 Atlantic grads to commit to Iowa Central. Olivia Engler will play softball for the Tritons and Taylor McCreedy is heading to Fort Dodge to continue her distance running career.
