(Guthrie Center) Guthrie County Attorney Brenna Bird appearing in front of the Board of Supervisors this morning stated her office handles 40-to-70 news cases per month.
Bird says that’s part of why the system works because it’s impossible to have that many trials in one month. Bird says they get one trial per week.
Bird admits some cases are bigger than others; however, she pointed out some of the smaller cases take just as long as some of the felony cases; it depends on what is involved.
Mitigation procedures currently have jurors sitting in the audience area, but fully vaccinated people don’t have to wear masks in court. Bird is hopeful all mitigation is lifted soon, and until then, jury selection is not allowed in the courtroom.
Meanwhile, the courtroom upgrade is finished, TVs are installed, and the courtroom is equipped with cameras, microphones, making it easier for people to see and hear.
