(Avoca) AHSTW starts their 2021 softball campaign with a home matchup against Audubon on Monday. The game will air on 96.5 FM KSOM with pregame coverage beginning at approximately 7:15 p.m.
The Lady Vikes are coming off of a 10-8 season in 2020. The Wheelers went 11-9 a year ago. New AHSTW coach Trevor Gipple says his team starts with lone senior Kailey Jones, “We kind of live and die around our leader. Kailey Jones. Amazing work ethic, great example for our younger players, she definitely leads things off for us as far as her leadership and experience.”
Jones won five games in the circle last year as she split time with 2020 graduate Madison Thornton. Jones held opponents to a .226 batting average and walked just five batters all season while striking out 45.
The Lady Vikes have a busy slate to start off the year. Tuesday they travel to Tri-Center, on Wednesday they’ll play at Harlan, on Thursday they host Riverside, and on Friday they travel to Treynor.
