(Greenfield) Nodaway Valley has hired Jeremy Blake as their next head coach in boys basketball. Blake comes to the Wolverines after spending the last decade in Atlantic as an assistant.
Longtime head coach Darrell Burmeister is retiring from his teaching duties this spring and while the possibility was there of returning to the sideline, it wasn’t in the cards. Activities Director Gerry Miller says, “Due to retirement and advancement in administrative position the coaching opening happened. We went through a through a thorough interview process of all candidates and Coach Blake rose to the top. We couldn’t be more excited to have him.”
Miller could not confirm whether or not Burmeister was in fact a candidate to return, but Burmeister had not previously indicated to KSOM/KS95.7 Sports that he was not ready to give up his coaching duties just yet. “I would say that we had an extensive search. We had quality candidates across the board.” Miller adds, “We made the best selection for the whole person that we needed to fit with our district needs at this time.”
Burmeister, who won over 600 games in his career, served as a co-head coach last season with James Larson. Larson resigned his coaching duties upon accepting an Elementary Principal position at Nodaway Valley. Burmeister also held head coaching roles in track and cross country.
