(Des Moines) At her press conference Wednesday, Governor Kim Reynolds spoke about a compromised plan that would deliver millions of dollars in tax cuts for Iowans.
Reynolds said over the past couple of weeks she has been meeting with leadership and members of both the House and the Senate and she has laid out a compromised plan that helps wrap up the session and it takes the best aspects of a number of bills and it delivers 400-million dollars in tax cuts for Iowans.
Reynolds said the compromised proposal that she has presented would remove the mental health levee, thus cutting property taxes statewide by 100-million and paying for mental health services from the state’s general fund as they do with other services.
Reynolds said the proposal also includes a comprehensive approach to addressing Iowa’s housing needs and kick starts the collective effort to address the childcare crisis in Iowa.
Reynolds said now is the time to come together to take action and that is what she is asking the House and Senate to do in the remaining days of the legislative session.

In other news, Governor Reynolds spoke about Iowa declining 95-million dollars in federal funding that was allocated specifically to conduct surveillance testing in K-12 schools. She said the funding was part of a national effort to encourage schools to reopen for in-person learning.
Reynolds said to date, no Iowa schools have claimed expenses for testing supplies or services and more than 290 million dollars from previously allocated funding still remains available for that use should the need arise.
