(Guthrie Center) ACGC’s Chloe Largent eyes a program record when she competes at the Drake Relays this week.
The Charger junior has qualified for the high jump with a season best of 5-04. That height gives Largent the ACGC record, but she needs one more inch to erase the old Guthrie Center and Adair-Casey standards. The Adair-Casey mark just so happens to be held by someone Largent is very familiar with. “It would be really cool especially since her mom (Tara Kading) holds the A-C record. She’s really looking to beat her mom. Last time she was at that track was state a couple of years ago she had her best jumps of the year so we are hoping to replicate that.”
Shawgo says one of Largent’s personal goals is to medal at Drake. He is confident she can get there. “She’s been clearing 5’0” and 5’2″ really consistently and easily all year so we knew is was just a matter of time before she got to 5’3″ or 5’4″ and now we are just looking to hopefully get her over 5’5″ at the Drake Relays.”
Largent placed 9th at state as a sophomore and has made great progress since then. “She’s really worked hard on building her strength, jumping ability, and explosiveness. She’s puts in work everyday. We’ve done a lot of form work. She’s done a really good job of listening to my suggestions and she’s really become a student of high jumping.”
The high jump is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
