(St. Louis, MO) The Iowa Hawkeye wrestling team has three finalists and is in position to win a national title as a team on Saturday.
Following Friday’s semifinal round the Hawkeyes have 109 points. Penn State is in 2nd with 94.5 points and Oklahoma State is 3rd with 86.5 points.
Spencer Lee (125), Jaydin Eierman (141), and Michael Kemerer (174) kept their individual championship aspirations alive on Friday night with semifinal wins. Austin DeSanto (133) and Tony Cassioppi (285) each fell short in their semifinal bouts. Kaleb Young (157) and Jacob Warner (197) are still in the tournament for the Hawks going into the final day.
Iowa State sits in 13th with 32.5 points. The Cyclones went 1-1 in Friday night’s semifinals. David Carr posted a 6-4 triumph to move into the 157 pound final. Gannon Gremmel lost to the #2 seed at heavyweight in his semifinal match.
UNI is 21st with 20 points. Freshman Parker Keckeisen lost a 6-4 semifinal decision at 184 to Penn State’s Aaron Brooks.
