(Des Moines) The drought conditions are improving in southwest and west-central Iowa.
Brooke Hagenhoff with the National Weather Service in Des Moines says southwest Iowa dropped from the (D1), or moderate status to small areas of (D0), categorized as abnormally dry. “The improvement is due to the two-plus inches of rain we saw last weekend, along with any additional snowfall that settled into the soil,” said Hagenhoff. “While there are still some dry pockets across northern Iowa, southwest Iowa has seen a lot of improvement over the past week.”
Hagenhoff says there are several chances of additional precipitation forecast for early Monday morning and continuing through the first half of next week.
