(Oakland) Riverside has put together back-to-back winning seasons in boys soccer including a 12-4 campaign in 2019.
The Bulldogs are chomping at the bit to get it rolling this season. Head coach Rick Ryun says, “We are very excited to get going and get outside. We’ve had some open gyms and it’s been very competitive. They are ready to go. We should have a pretty solid team again this year with seven seniors, three juniors, three sophomores, and five freshmen.”
Coach Ryun points out his squad has a lot of players capable of making a big impact. “Brogan Allensworth will be in the mid-field so we’ll rely on him for a little bit of everything. Caden Manzer up front will be a striker, Conner Stevens, Rhett Bentley, the list goes on and on. The defense guys that have started every year are Drake Woods, Wyatt Sparr, Ethan Reicks, there’s a whole list of them. They can all play.”
Riverside sports across the board have been on an upward trend in recent years and soccer has been no exception. “We are going to games expecting to win. We’ve obviously had great success the last couple of years and then when we got Darrell (Frain) in there he really helped too. I think it really started with the 2019 graduates.”
Coach Ryun says there are no nights off on the schedule this season which is what they want.
