(Area) April 9th marks the start of the Turkey Hunting season in Iowa.
The youth season will start on the 9th of April followed by four separate gun seasons. “Some of us have turned our attention towards turkey hunting and maybe before too long will be getting out and doing some scouting. You’ll need to start making plans for where and when you are going to hunt. That’s only a month away.”
April 12th is the opening date of the first season. Bryan Hayes with the Iowa DNR points out this gives individuals that still need to complete their hunter education courses some time to get that done. “Hunter education is a requirement for anyone born after January 1st, 1972. You are required to complete the hunter education course before you are able to purchase a license.”
Hayes says March is a good time to find hunter education courses to complete. Many online courses are available followed by a one day field day. More details can be found at www.iowadnr.gov.
