(Audubon) The Audubon City Council has officially put the ball into motion for charging on fire calls.
The first reading of Ordinance 753 was passed on Monday. “That’s an ordinance amending our code to allow the city to charge for fire calls. The first reading passed and then the resolution was tabled because we want to make sure the ordinance passes before the resolution.”
City Clerk Joe Foran stresses most of the money collected will come through insurance companies. “On the resolution a vehicle fire would be up to $500, a grass fire up to $300, structural fire up to $500, rescue calls and extractions up to $1,000. There’s a lot of different things. A lot of this was based off of what insurance companies would pay for particular services.”
Meanwhile the work is well underway to make room for the new fire station located at the old Landus building. “They updated the city council on it saying the asbestos is being removed and the rest of the building has been taken down.”
Also at Monday’s meeting the council awarded the 2020 Water Treatment Plant and Supply Improvement project bid to King Construction for $1.58 Million.
