(Des Moines) The defending state runner-up in Class 1A is heading back to the state championship game. This time the path for Bishop Garrigan included a 57-35 semifinal win over Exira-EHK on Friday at Wells Fargo Arena.
The Spartans were able to hang with the Golden Bears for much of the 1st quarter, but the #1 ranked team in 1A dominated the final three frames. Bishop Garrigan took the lead during a 17-1 stretch in the first half and never looked back. They got 17 points, 18 rebounds, and 7 blocks from Audi Crooks, 17 points from Molly Joyce, and 10 points from Kaylyn Meyers.
Exira-EHK was led by 9 points from Mollie Rasmussen while Quinn Grubbs scored 8, Shay Burmeister 6, Tatum Grubbs and Macy Emgarten 5 each, and Alisa Partridge 2. They shot just 3/23 from 3-point range in the game. After hitting 4/11 shot from the floor in the first quarter they were just 5/26 shooting in the next two quarters.
4th rated Exira-EHK’s season ends at 24-1. #1 Bishop Garrigan takes a 25-1 mark in to the state finals.
