(Underwood) Riverside has district champions John Schroder (113), Jace Rose (120), and Eddie Vlcek (195) advancing on to state while Nolan Moore (138) and Kaiden Hendricks (182) each won wrestle back matches on Saturday to keep their seasons alive. The Bulldogs were in action at the District Wrestling Tournament at Underwood. AHSTW qualifies Garrison Gettler as the 160 pound runner-up. Gettler won a 3-2 decision in a wrestleback match to advance to state for the first time in his career.
Schroder, now 34-5, posted a technical fall and major decision to cruise to the 113 pound title. Rose had a pair of first period pins to win the district crown. He’s 33-1 on the season. Eddie Vlcek improved to 31-9 with his title at 195. He won by fall in the first round and earned a 16-12 decision over St. Albert’s Ben O’Neill in the finals. Nolan Moore won by fall in 5:12 against Danny Kinsella (Treynor) in a wrestleback. He also pinned Terence Sheley, of Bedford/Lenox, but lost his finals match by fall to Underwood’s (22-1) Westin Allen. Hendricks also needed a wrestleback. He downed SW Valley’s Kaden Jackson 9-7 to seal the deal. Prior to that he’d pinned Brody Gordon (East Mills) and lost by fall to (39-1) Brecken Freeberg, of Tri-Center.
Gettler kept fans on the edge of their seat with three tight matches. He won in the semi’s 4-3, lost in the finals 8-7, and won the wrestleback 3-2. His wrestleback victory was over Cole Lange, of Missouri Valley. Gettler will take a 32-6 mark to Des Moines.
