(Griswold) The Griswold Tigers picked up their third win over Essex this season on Friday night at home. The 68-47 victory sends them into a Class 1A District Quarterfinal at Class 1A top ten ranked Tri-Center.
Griswold shot well from the outside early in the game and quickly built a double figure lead. Kamron Brownlee’s 3/3 3-point shooting in the game’s first few minutes helped the home team jump in front 12-2. They would close the first quarter with a 21-4 advantage and extended the lead to 31-7 by halftime.
Landon Pelzer was difficult for Essex to keep off of the offensive glass and off the free-throw line. Pelzer scored a game high 21 points. Brownlee registered 19 and Jayden Amend notched 10.
The Tigers pushed the lead to over 30 points early in the 2nd half, but Essex put together a good stretch to gain some momentum. The Trojans managed a 10-2 spurt to get within 22 points, but Griswold cranked things back up in the the 4th and put the game away.
Tucker Hadden led Essex with 15 points. They end their season at 2-20. Griswold improves to 5-14 on the year and will play at Tri-Center on Monday.
